Sophie's dad had passed away some time ago leaving her in the care of his wife, Bella. Bella had fought a tumor and two different types of cancer and as a result, had become weak and unbalanced. She took a fall and had to spend three weeks in the hospital and rehab when her doctor suggested she re-home Sophie. It was a very hard decision for Bella because she loved her so much and so did her late husband, but she knew it was the right choice.
Sophie was being boarded at her vet's office in Port St. Lucie for a couple of weeks when Bella's daughter heard about The Pet Cottage and gave us a call. We visited this sweet 12-year-old girl who was clearly not used to a kennel environment.
We immediately got to work on finding Sophie the perfect home. Although she gets along with other dogs, cats and children we had a feeling she was used to being an only child. We conducted multiple home visits before meeting June, a schnauzer lover who just moved out of her condo into a single-family-home with a yard and was ready for a dog.
June and Sophie are living happily with each other as companions. Bella has peace of mind that Sophie was re-homed to a person with the ideal situation for her. And The Pet Cottage still checks on both families and sends Bella pictures of Sophie in her new home.
