Our Mission

The Pet Cottage is a private sanctuary for pets that have lost their humans due to death, disability or military deployment. We provide lifelong guardianship through sanctuary residency, forever fosters, or rehoming.

Our Vision

To obtain a property that can provide private sanctuary for pets that have lost their humans due to death, disability or deployment. Where the caretakers live on the premises and homestyle care is the environment. A community that honors pets for the role they play in our lives and accommodates their needs for the rest of their lives.

Lucy's Story

Lucy this adorable Morkie came to The Pet Cottage after her Dad and then her Mom passed away. TPC was alerted of her need to be re-homed when the pet sitter who had cared for her all her life knew she couldn’t keep her. Wendy had a home vetted and ready to welcome her. When she brought Lucy who was named Lexi at the time,  to the home she had thought would be her new home, Lexi decided it wasn’t the home for her and didn’t make any attempt to bond or connect with the person who lived there.

So, Wendy left with Lexi in tow. Wendy had a home visit scheduled with someone contemplating the idea of fostering a dog with The Pet Cottage. Wendy arrived at Judy’s home, a recent widow whose Doctor suggested she adopt a dog to soothe her loneliness.

Judy discovered the Pet Cottage when she encountered a volunteer who was out walking her dog and she wanted to find out more about our senior to senior program. When Wendy arrived with Lexi, Judy had no intention of getting a dog that day, but Lexi had a different idea. When Wendy walked in with Lexi, she decided “this is my home”. Lexi ran right in and bonded with Judy straight away. She explored the house and jumped right into a chair she claimed as her own.

It didn’t take much convincing for Judy to decide to give it a go. This was truly a match made in heaven, we are sure Judy’s husband had something to do with it.

Judy has Alexa in her home and each time she called Lexi, Alexa answered, so she decided to rename her Lucy.

They love each other dearly. Judy is a different person with Lucy in her life she has her smile back!
